Tai Chi for Diabetes

Tai Chi for Diabetes is a tai chi form, specially designed by Dr Paul Lam in conjunction with his team of medical specialists and tai chi experts to improve the management of diabetes. The program will help to increase flexibility and muscle strength, increase heart/lung activity, align posture, improve balance, and integrate the mind and body. This safe effective program is supported by Diabetes Australia.

Based on the Sun and Yang styles of tai chi, Tai Chi for Diabetes (TCD) is easy to learn, effective, and safe. The program includes warm-up and cool-down exercises, the teaching method, basic knowledge about diabetes, and how to teach this program safely. Qualified participants who complete the course may be accredited by the Tai Chi for Health Institute to teach this exercise program.

Diabetes Educators, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Exercise Physiologists, Certified Allied Health Assistants, Diversional Therapists, Lifestyle Coordinators, Health practitioners, Nurses, Tai Chi teachers and advanced Tai Chi students

The name of the Master Trainer authorized by Dr Lam to conduct this workshop is listed in the heading.

By the Completion of the Workshop, you will:

Board Certification

Following successful completion of this course you will be required to register to become a Tai Chi for Health Institute Board-certified instructor before teaching the program (if not already a member). One annual fee covers Board Certification for all your Tai Chi for Health qualifications. You will then be listed with your certifications on the TCHI website.

Clothing

Wear loose comfortable clothes and flat shoes suitable for exercise.

The American College of Sports Medicine’s Professional Education Committee certifies that “Tai Chi for Health Institute” meets the criteria for official ACSM Approved Provider status from (2021 – December 2024).

This workshop has two options:  1) 2-day Tai Chi for Diabetes (TCD) Instructor Training; or, 2) 1-day Recertification of TCD, TCA, TCA/FP, TCR, TCE or TCB Instructor’s Certificates.

OPTION 1:  TAI CHI FOR DIABETES (TCD) INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION (November 12-13, 2018)

Tuition includesThe Tai Chi for Diabetes DVD; the book, Teaching Tai Chi Effectively; morning and afternoon refreshments; lunches, and the TCD Training Completion Instructor (or Attendance) Certificates.  

CEU Credits are available:  FOR TCD: 13 contact hours for CEUs for Physical Therapists (PTs & PTAs), Occupational Therapists (OTs & OTAs), Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Licensed Mental Health Technicians (LMHTs), and American College of Sports Medicine Certified Professionals (ACSMPs).  

 

OPTION 2:  INSTRUCTOR RECERTIFICATION for TCD, TCA, TCA/FP, TCR, TCE or TCB (November13, 2018)

Tuition includes:  Morning and afternoon refreshments; lunch, and the appropriate TCH Update Certificate(s).  The participant MUST attend the training on December 9 (Day 2 of the 2-day Instructor Certification workshop) in order to recertify. 

Participants updating their TCD certificates have the option to attend November 12 (Day 1) at no additional charge.  (Please indicate in your registration if you intend to attend the additional Day 1 training.) 

CEU Credits are available:  For TCD Recertification: 7 contact hours for CEUs for Physical Therapists (PTs & PTAs), Occupational Therapists (OTs & OTAs), Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Licensed Mental Health Technicians (LMHTs), and American College of Sports Medicine Certified Professionals (ACSMPs).

2-day Instructor Certification Workshop:   $245.  Early bird is $210, if payment is received by October 15.

1-day Instructor Recertification:  $120.  Early bird is $100, if payment is received by October 15.

Multiple Updates:  $120 for the first update,  $20 for each additional update.

CEUs:  $20 processing fee
