Information
Details
Dr Paul Lam, a retired family physician and tai chi master, led a team of tai chi and medical specialists to create this evidence based program. It is easy, enjoyable and safe for people with arthritis to learn. Medical studies have shown the program to relieve pain for people with arthritis and improve their quality of lives, as well as prevent falls for older adults. For this reason, Arthritis Foundations around the world and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are giving it their full support. Although especially effective for arthritis and fall prevention, it is a great start for beginners to improve health and wellness.
Who Can Come?
Anyone with or without prior tai chi experience can attend this workshop. Preparation is strongly recommended.
Preparation (details at https://taichiforhealthinstitute.org/how-to-become-an-instructor-of-dr-lams-program-3/)
Prepare by working with the Tai Chi for Arthritis DVD as much as possible. It will enable you to gain the maximum benefits and enjoyment from this workshop. It will take from 20 hours to 200 hours to prepare depending on your experience in tai chi and health education. For example an experienced tai chi practitioner would not need as much time (about 15 to 30 hours) to learn the program from the instructional DVD.
The book “Teaching Tai Chi Effectively” and the "Tai Chi for Arthritis & Fall Prevention" handbook will be our texts for this workshop. Review of these texts, and especially the chapters on safety, teaching effectively, Stepwise Progressive Teaching Method and Working with Chronic Conditions is part of your preparation.
The dvd, text, handbook and other resources are available at www.taichiproductions.com. Paid participants receive a 20% discount. A code will be given to you when your booking is confirmed and payment received.
Please arrive to the workshop scent free in consideration for those with perfume allergies. Wear loose comfortable clothes and flat shoes suitable for exercise.
