A very special invitation only Master Class with Dr Paul Lam

From Dr Lam:

I am really excited about the only Master Class (MC) this year! This is one of the workshops I enjoy most. There will be limited participants with similar tai chi levels and great enthusiasm. I will personally teach the MC. We will be focusing on sharing tai chi effectively, at the same time getting to know each other and sharing positive energy and the Tai Chi for Health vision. There will be an opportunity to be updated, certified in certain programs and certified by me for teaching your chosen set.

Let me tell you what you can expect to gain from the MC.

Benefits

Over 500 medical studies have shown tai chi improves muscular strength, flexibility and fitness; as well as improved relaxation, balance, immunity and other health benefits. However studies don’t show anywhere near the full extent of benefits tai chi can bring! For example, it can empower you to develop serenity, inner strength and power, leading to more happiness and fulfillment.

I incorporate my 40 years plus medical knowledge, tai chi experience and positive psychology to enhance the 24 and 73 Forms. At the completion of the workshop you will understand the sets more deeply, find a clearer path to progress in your tai chi and gain more enjoyment from your practice.

The Forms

The 24 Forms was created in 1956 in China based on Yang style tai chi. Today it is the most popular set containing all the essential principles of tai chi. Each movement has great inner energy and complexity.

I have worked closely with the creator of the 73 Forms which was based on the classical Sun style tai chi. It has unique qigong (the practice to cultivate internal energy) together with many powerful features. Sun style tai chi is beneficial and suitable for almost anyone and is complementary to other styles. It is exciting and fun going through many layers of depth with this set.

At the Workshop

I will go through form by form in detail to explain the depth and inner meaning. I will offer feedback, points of improvement and direction to develop your tai chi. You will be oriented to the big picture of your respective set and work towards the ultimate purpose of tai chi; to cultivate your qi most effectively and enjoyably. During the workshop we will have time to interact, and benefit from my tai chi and teaching experience and medical knowledge to help you improve your tai chi.

The Common Program - Tai Chi for Rehabilitation

Tai Chi for Rehabilitation (TCR) is a program combining Yang, Sun and Chen styles. Chen style is vigorous and sophisticated, containing fast and slow movements along with the mysterious spiral force. Sun style has a uniquely powerful qigong along with agile steps. Yang has graceful and slow movements which promote health.

More importantly, this seemingly simple set is a crystallization of my life long study of tai chi, eastern and western medicine, positive psychology and personal development.

Those who have already studied TCR will learn more depth and how to utilize it to build inner strength, and in turn use it with your participants to build their inner strength and reclaim their quality of life.

How does a Master Class Work?

Participants are selected based on the levels of proficiency in your chosen set and contribution to Tai Chi for Health. Every day both groups will attend lectures with me, and have joint warm up sessions and learning about or working on the Tai Chi for Rehabilitation together.

Then I will give Group One instructions for their practice session, and work intensively with Group Two until break time.

After the break I will work with Group Two as Group One practice.

I have found this format more effective than teaching in all sessions. The practice time would enable you to absorb the new material and hone your skills so that you can develop your tai chi well, especially the internal aspects.

As usual you are encouraged to work within your comfort zone.
