All Participants will receive either an attendance or TCA Instructor/Leader certificate.

PREPARATION FOR WORKSHOP: It is a requirement that you acquire/purchase all course materials yourself prior to the workshop so as to adequately prepare for the workshop by learning the Basic Six movements both sides and have attempted to learn the complete set (the TCA 12 form) by following the instructions in the 2 disc/ DVD - Tai Chi for Arthritis 12 lessons DVD (Health DVD).  It is recommended a minimum of 10 hours.of practice with this DVD.  This will enable you to gain the maximum benefits and enjoyment from this workshop. As well, you will need to read the compulsory course materials which are the teaching resource book -Teaching Tai Chi Effectively Book 2011 edition by Dr Paul Lam and Tai Chi for Arthritis Handbook and by reviewing the articles published on Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention available on Dr Lam's TCHI website.

This workshop focuses exclusively on the TCA program including focussing on principles related to Falls Prevention and a method of teaching the TCA program in a seated position.  Therefore the only update available workshop will be the TCA Refresher on Saturday as advertised separately and multiple updates for other Dr Lam’s Tai Chi for Health workshops are not offered.

All course materials can be purchased at any time direct from Dr Paul Lam's Tai Chi Productions' website - www.taichiproductions.com

Seated Tai Chi for Arthritis: This workshop includes certification as Seated Tai Chi for Arthritis Instructor.  This is a modified version of the Tai Chi for Arthritis program and can be enjoyed by anyone wishing to practice Tai Chi sitting down. People with almost any chronic condition can learn to improve their health and mobility. This safe easy-to-learn program relieves pain and improves health and quality of life.

Health Professionals and carers using this program with people with disabilities can share quality time with them while improving their own health. It is suitable for people who are either unable to walk or are required to be seated.

Tai Chi for Arthritis and Falls Prevention:  This workshop also includes certification as Tai Chi for Arthritis and Falls Prevention Instructor.  Older people are more likely to fall, resulting in serious injury. Many measures can help to reduce the risks of falls, and studies have shown tai chi is one of the most effective. In fact, a number of research studies, using Dr Lam’s Tai Chi for Arthritis program, indicate a significant reduction in recurrent falls. The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (cdc.gov) recommend Tai Chi for Arthritis as a safe intervention for fall prevention, as well as Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), a New Zealand National Governmental body, and health departments in Australia.

As a result, Dr Lam and his colleagues have developed guidelines for Tai Chi for Arthritis instructors to place more emphasis on fall prevention. It does not in any way change the program, it is just another method to enhance the same program.

For Australia only: If you are currently qualified as an Instructor through the National Martial Arts Instructor Accreditation Scheme, you will be qualified as a Tai Chi for Arthritis Instructor upon successful completion of the program. All other persons will be qualified as a Tai Chi for Arthritis Leader of the program.

Fitness Australia 12 CECs: This two day course is accredited with Fitness Australia by Dr Paul Lam with Elva being authorised as an Official Presenter and Assessor of Fitness Instructors at this workshop for the issue of 12 CECs certificate by Dr Lam.  There is an additional fee of $50 (to be included in the workshop price) for the official certificate which will be issued on behalf of the Tai Chi for Health Institute by Dr Paul Lam.
