PREPARATION FOR WORKSHOP As a certification workshop, preparation prior to workshop is essential.   It is a requirement that you learn the Advanced Nine movements both sides by following the instructions in the Part 2 DVD, as well as reading the recommended course material. You can start now and give yourself the opportunity to adequately prepare for the workshop well in advance by acquiring/purchasing the Part 2 DVD and the Teaching Tai Chi for Health Effectively text by Dr Lam from Tai Chi Productions, and by accessing the article and discussion on Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention on Dr Lam's TCHI website.

This one-day workshop focuses exclusively on refreshing, enhancing and extending the TCA program with the Part 2 and also focussing on principles related to Falls Prevention and a method of teaching the TCA program in a seated position.  Therefore the only update available will be the TCA Refresher on Saturday as advertised separately, and multiple updates for other Dr Lam’s Tai Chi for Health workshops are not offered.

All relevant course materials can be purchased at any time direct from Dr Paul Lam's Tai Chi Productions' website - www.taichiproductions.com

Tai Chi for Arthritis Part 2 Certification Program:  Dr Paul Lam and his team of medical and tai chi experts designed the Tai Chi for Arthritis program to be safe and effective for people with arthritis; it also provides health benefits and can improve almost anyone’s quality of life.

Millions of people around the world have gained health benefits from the TCA program and thousands of people around the world have gained health benefits from the TCAFP program. Many scientific studies have shown that the TCA program relieves pain, improves quality of life and makes people feel better. Studies also shown the program prevent falls; that is why the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC.gov) recommends it for this purpose. It is supported by many Arthritis Foundations including the USA, Australia and UK.

The TCA form has twelve moves, and many people told Dr Lam they wanted a longer set to enhance their practice.  Dr Lam has carefully selected a further 9 forms to add to the original TCA to create a more exciting set.  Containing more sophisticated moves and subtle changes in direction, TCA2 is an ideal tool for beginners looking to expand their repertoire and develop their knowledge of the tai chi principles, and to gain more health benefits.

Seated Tai Chi for Arthritis: This workshop includes certification as Seated Tai Chi for Arthritis Instructor.  This is a modified version of Tai Chi for Arthritis and can be enjoyed by anyone wishing to practice Tai Chi sitting down. People with almost any chronic condition can learn to improve their health and mobility. This safe easy-to-learn program relieves pain and improves health and quality of life.

Health Professionals and carers using this program with people with disabilities can share quality time with them while improving their own health. It is suitable for people who are either unable to walk or are required to be seated.

Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention:  This workshop also includes certification as Tai Chi for Arthritis and Falls Prevention Instructor. Older people are more likely to fall, resulting in serious injury. Many measures can help to reduce the risks of falls, and studies have shown tai chi is one of the most effective. In fact, a number of research studies, using Dr Lam’s Tai Chi for Arthritis program, indicate a significant reduction in recurrent falls. The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (cdc.gov) recommend Tai Chi for Arthritis as a safe intervention for fall prevention, as well as Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), a New Zealand National Governmental body, and health departments in Australia.

As a result, Dr Lam and his colleagues have developed guidelines for Tai Chi for Arthritis instructors to place more emphasis on fall prevention. It does not in any way change the program, it is just another method to enhance the same program.

TCA Update: Please see separate listing for the one-day TCA Update on this website.  Tai Chi for Arthritis Instructors/ Leaders can also update their certification on Saturday, the first day of this weekend workshop.

Anyone who has already been certified as TCA Instructor/Leader more than two years ago, please contact Elva to discuss your eligibility for re-certification.
