Details

This workshop has procedures that are different for 2019.   This instructor training workshop is for Tai Chi for Arthritis, Tai Chi for Arthritis for Falls Prevention, and Seated Tai Chi for Arthritis.  Three training completion certificates will be issued at the successful conclusion of the training.

New Certifications:

In general for instructor trainings for new certifications there is now a requirement to attend 14 hours (the usual 2 days) of training using the Zoom platform, and then attend a 4 hour in-person practicum (a 1-hour practicum if you already hold an active certificate and are Board certified).

Preparation for this training includes reading the book, Teaching Tai Chi Effectively, and working through the DVDs, Tai Chi for Arthritis and Seated Tai Chi for Arthritis.  In addition, the completion/submission of the quiz is required prior to the first day of the training, as well as a recording of your attempt at performing the Tai Chi for Arthritis and Seated Tai Chi for Arthritis routines.  The recording will be done on the Zoom platform and the link sent to the Master Trainer a minimum of a week before the first training segment.

The virtual training will be scheduled as 4 segments of 4 hours.  For this training, the 4 virtual training segments will be from 8:30 to 12:30 on August 2 (Sunday), 3 (Monday), 9 (Sunday), 10 (Monday).  These segments will be conducted using the Zoom platform.  There is no charge to use Zoom (that is, you do not have to have a paid account to attend the training).  No travel is required.

For the practicum, the 4-hour session will be on Tuesday, August 11 (8:30 to 12:30) in Albany.

Instructor Recertifications:

Recertifications/updates are being done virtually.  The process will be to complete the written assignment packet and then spend an hour on Zoom with the Master Trainer.  The Zoom session will include the usual recertification/update activities: doing the warm-ups, the Tai Chi routine(s) you are updating, and teaching one form using the Stepwise Method.  There will also be discussion of safety, falls prevention, teaching effectively, and any other topics, as appropriate.
