Tai Chi for Diabetes
Tai Chi for Diabetes is a tai chi form, specially designed by Dr Paul Lam in conjunction with his team of medical specialists and tai chi experts to improve the management of diabetes. The program will help to increase flexibility and muscle strength, increase heart/lung activity, align posture, improve balance, and integrate the mind and body. This safe effective program is supported by Diabetes Australia.
Based on the Sun and Yang styles of tai chi, Tai Chi for Diabetes (TCD) is easy to learn, effective, and safe. The program includes warm-up and cool-down exercises, the teaching method, basic knowledge about diabetes, and how to teach this program safely. Qualified participants who complete the course may be accredited by the Tai Chi for Health Institute to teach this exercise program.

Diabetes Educators, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Exercise Physiologists, Certified Allied Health Assistants, Diversional Therapists, Lifestyle Coordinators, Health practitioners, Nurses, Tai Chi teachers and advanced Tai Chi students
The name of the Master Trainer authorized by Dr Lam to conduct this workshop is listed in the heading.

Board Certification
Following successful completion of this course you will be required to register to become a Tai Chi for Health Institute Board-certified instructor before teaching the program (if not already a member). One annual fee covers Board Certification for all your Tai Chi for Health qualifications. You will then be listed with your certifications on the TCHI website.
Clothing
Wear loose comfortable clothes and flat shoes suitable for exercise.

Tai Chi for Diabetes Instructor Training Workshop and Update led by Master Trainer Linda Ebeling, Updates available

This workshop is open to residents of AK through a grant. Others may apply with Bruce Tyler - details below
Updating Instructors are required to attend on Mar 28, but may attend on the 27th as well for additional form work without extra charge.
WAIVERS: Each participant will sign a Waiver & Release Form before taking part in this workshop.
After this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate the TCD form and its warm-up and cool-down;
- Describe practical ways to integrate tai chi principles into existing interventions, exercises and activities;
- Differentiate ways to safely modify tai chi movements for an individual’s capabilities and limitations;
- Demonstrate how to teach tai chi, or any therapeutic movements, using the Stepwise Progressive Teaching Method; and
- Describe ways to use sequenced tai chi movements to help improve physical and psychological functional performance.
Steps to Becoming a TCD Instructor
- Watch TCD DVD or Onine lessons with Dr. Lam and practice forms before attending the TCD Instructor Training Workshop.
- Obtain a valid CPR certificate from an accredited course before teaching a TCD class.
- Pass the workshop post-test and be able to do the forms well and safely.
BEFORE WORKSHOP….
Participants are to view the DVD before attending the training and become familiar with the first six movements, and have completed reading Teaching Tai Chi Effectively.
Participants will also need to schedule time for pre and post workshop checks with the Master and Senior Trainers. Since this workshop is virtual, extra components are required.
WHAT TO WEAR: Loose, comfortable clothing withflat shoes suitable for exercise.
