Elva has also been a community Fitness Instructor for over 35 years and in the Redlands Community Queensland for over 32 years as a Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Instructor, accredited in 2006 with Fitness Australia as a Presenter and Assessor of Dr Lam's TCA programs with Fitness Australia in the CEC Fitness Instructor training program. She has been a Tai Chi Instructor at many International Tai Chi Workshops in USA, New Zealand, Korea & Australia.

Prerequisites for Participation: This workshop is available for currently certified TCA Instructor/Leaders.  However, anyone who has already been certified as TCA Instructor/Leader but more than two years ago, please contact Elva to discuss your eligibility for re-certification.

All Participants will receive either an attendance or instructor/leader’s certificate.

PREPARATION FOR WORKSHOP: It is a requirement that you adequately prepare for the workshop by reviewing the 2 disc/ DVD - Tai Chi for Arthritis 12 lessons DVD (Health DVD), as well as the recommended course material. You can adequately prepare for the workshop well in advance by acquiring/purchasing the DVDs and the Teaching Tai Chi for Health Effectively Book 2011 edition by Dr Lam and Tai Chi for Arthritis Handbook from Tai Chi Productions, and by accessing both the article and discussion on Tai Chi for Arthritis and Falls Prevention available on Dr Lam's TCHI website.

All course materials can be purchased at any time direct from Dr Paul Lam's Tai Chi Productions' website - www.taichiproductions.com

This one-day workshop focuses exclusively on refreshing and enhancing the TCA program including focussing on principles related to Falls Prevention and a method of teaching the TCA program in a seated position.  Therefore the only update available at this workshop will be the TCA Refresher, and multiple updates for other Dr Lam’s Tai Chi for Health workshops are not offered.

Tai Chi for Arthritis Update Workshop: Only currently certified Tai Chi for Arthritis Instructors/ Leaders will update their certification at this one-day workshop which will also include Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention and Seated Tai Chi for Arthritis. This is an opportunity to review all 12 Forms in the Sun 12 Form (2 disc/ DVD - Tai Chi for Arthritis 12 lessons DVD (Health DVD).

This workshop is thus not simply a refresher for the re-certification for the TCA program but importantly it is much more, it is an opportunity to extend, refine, practice and enhance the performance and teaching skills of the Basic Sun Style 12 form (Tai Chi for Arthritis – 12 lessons DVD).  This will develop your own Tai Chi practice and skills of teaching the TCA program under the supervision of Master Trainer Elva Arthy by focussing throughout the workshop on extending Dr Lam’s essential principles including the application of the TCA program to falls prevention and learning to teach and perform tai chi in a seated position in a safe and effective way, thus being another method of enhancing the TCA program.

Seated Tai Chi for Arthritis: This workshop includes certification as Seated Tai Chi for Arthritis Instructor.  This is a modified version of the Tai Chi for Arthritis program and can be enjoyed by anyone wishing to practice Tai Chi sitting down. People with almost any chronic condition can learn to improve their health and mobility. This safe easy-to-learn program relieves pain and improves health and quality of life.

Health Professionals and carers using this program with people with disabilities can share quality time with them while improving their own health. It is suitable for people who are either unable to walk or are required to be seated.

Tai Chi for Arthritis and Falls Prevention:  This workshop also includes certification as Tai Chi for Arthritis and Falls Prevention Instructor. Older people are more likely to fall, resulting in serious injury. Many measures can help to reduce the risks of falls, and studies have shown tai chi is one of the most effective. In fact, a number of research studies, using Dr Lam’s Tai Chi for Arthritis program, indicate a significant reduction in recurrent falls. The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (cdc.gov) recommend Tai Chi for Arthritis as a safe intervention for fall prevention, as well as Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), a New Zealand National Governmental body, and health departments in Australia.

As a result, Dr Lam and his colleagues have developed guidelines for Tai Chi for Arthritis instructors to place more emphasis on fall prevention. It does not in any way change the program, it is just another method to enhance the same program.

For Australia only - If you are currently qualified as an Instructor through the National Martial Arts Instructor Accreditation Scheme, you will be qualified as a Tai Chi for Arthritis Instructor upon successful completion of the program. All other persons will be qualified as a Tai Chi for Arthritis Leader of the program.
