Bio
1993 I started teaching tai chi casually. In 2006 I was contracted by ACC to be part of a large New Zealand wide study on falls prevention. From early 2007 till December 2024 I was teaching several tai chi classes a week formally on Waiheke Island.
At the end of 2024 I moved to the Coromandel Peninsula, and still regularly go back to Waiheke Island to teach.
In January 2025 I became a Master Trainer and I very much enjoy working in that role. Every few weeks I travel around New Zealand teaching Instructor Training Workshops and Skill Building Workshops, and I really value meeting so many enthusiastic tai chi people.
The Waiheke Island health professionals and community have really embraced tai chi and I was frequently called upon to give talks or demonstrations and introductory sessions at various corporate and charitable events.
We also had several builders and tradesmen in our classes who find tai chi great for strengthening their backs!
Helping children who experience challenges, I realised that tai chi does wonders for increasing self confidence through being non-competitive, and giving them tools to better control their emotions.
For six years now I am working with somebody who has Parkinson's, who is very pleased with the tools aquired through practising tai chi, not just for balance, but also for mental quietness, which helps in stressful situations like overcoming 'freezing', a common symptom.
Now I hope to be able to also support the Whitianga tai chi community.
I relished being a Senior Trainer for 10 years before I became a Master Trainer, which gave me the opportunity to teach workshops all around the country, as well as assist and learn from Master Trainers.
The great thing about tai chi is that there is always more to learn and to deepen one's understanding, and I am looking forward to many more years on this journey.
I have definitely found my home in the Tai Chi for Health Community!
I am qualified to teach Tai Chi for Arthritis and Falls Prevention, Kidz, Energy, Osteoporosis, Diabetes, Rehabilitation, Energy, Memory, Seated Tai Chi for Arthritis and Qi Gong, and I also teach traditional Sun 73 and Yang Style.
