Jonina Meyers

Jonina Meyers is a Tai Chi for Health Institute (TCHI) board certified instructor and a valued member of the Monterey Bay Tai Chi for Health Community.

After graduating from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a B.A. degree in psychology, Jonina spent five years working at the mental health center at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, as well as a reproductive health advocate for women and families at a women's health clinic. Later, she became a small business owner in the retail sector, a career that lasted for nearly four decades.

Jonina truly connected with her love of Health and Wellbeing when she began taking tai chi & qigong classes in 2017. After the first week of classes, she knew that she wanted to study and practice these ancient Chinese arts for years to come.

In 2021, Jonina met a local tai chi instructor by the name of Hei Takarabe and signed up for his Yang 24 class. From the start, she recognized that MT Hei Takarabe had a unique and calm style of teaching, a great depth of knowledge, and a sincere dedication to his students. She has studied under Hei's tutelage and mentorship, and followed Dr. Lam's TCHI programs, ever since.

Today, Jonina teaches Beginner Tai Chi classes every Tuesday and Thursday at a local community center in Seaside, California. She instructs her students in Tai Chi for Arthritis, TCAFP, Tai Chi for Life, and Tai Chi for Beginners (on a rotating basis).

Jonina takes great pride in teaching students at the beginning level. She understands that her role as an instructor is extremely important in helping new students build a solid foundation for their tai chi practice.

In addition, Jonina is actively involved with a local tai chi group, Monterey Bay Tai Chi for Health Community. Along with this group's other dedicated instructor-members, she assists MT Hei Takarabe in the administrative tasks of planning and organizing Tai Chi Workshops every spring and fall in the Monterey Bay area, California.
