Jerry Matlock

Bio

Jerry is retired from teaching honors science after 29 years in Arkansas public schools. He began studying and practicing Yang 24 form in 1990. Jerry studied William C.C. Chen's Yang 60 movement form at University of Arkansas in Little Rock then began studying Sun style tai chi in Dr. Lam's program in 2009. He was invited to teach at the Oaklawn Center on Aging, Hot Springs, Arkansas and conducted sessions there for 11 years. Jerry also taught tai chi at the Hot Springs YMCA, the National Park Community College. and the Atrium retirement Living Center. Recently, Jerry assisted Master Trainer Ileina Ferrier in a program with the North Little Rock Veterans Administration leading Veterans in learning the Tai Chi for Arthritis program via Zoom platform. the course was coordinated through the Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC).

Jerry is continuing his study of Tai Chi, qigong, and silk reeling with Sifu Dan Jones via Zoom sessions and whenever possible, with Shelia Rae and Richard Link of Memphis as well as Master Trainer Ileina Ferrier of Little Rock and other instructors from Dr. Lam's training workshops. He is currently studying the Depth of Sun Style Tai Chi and Silk Reeling with Master Dan Jones. He has trained in and practices Sun 73 form, Yang 24 Forms, Yang 60 Movements, Primordial Qigong, Five Elements Qigong, Tai Chi for Arthritis 1 & 2, Tai Chi for Diabetes, Tai Chi for Energy 1 & 2, Tai Chi for Osteoporosis, Seated Tai Chi for Arthritis and Tai Chi for Arthritis for Fall Prevention. Jerry is a retired Senior Trainer with Tai Chi for Health Institute.

Jerry has studied karate under Master Darie Burton, also a tai chi practitioner, at U.S.A. Karate.

On a personal level, noteworthy are the many cases of health improvement Jerry has witnessed with senior citizen students over the past ten years resulting from their tai chi practice.

After breaking from teaching at the onset of the Covid pandemic, I needed to devote time to caring for my elderly family members. This required me to relocate to Little Rock Arkansas. Though I was\\\\\\\'t teaching, I continued my studies with Sifu Dan Jones via Zoom. I am now rebooting my membership with Tai Chi for Health Institute and preparing to open classes here in Little Rock. Stay tuned for specifics on class locations and time.
