Tai Chi for Diabetes

Tai Chi for Diabetes is a tai chi form, specially designed by Dr Paul Lam in conjunction with his team of medical specialists and tai chi experts to improve the management of diabetes. The program will help to increase flexibility and muscle strength, increase heart/lung activity, align posture, improve balance, and integrate the mind and body. This safe effective program is supported by Diabetes Australia.

Based on the Sun and Yang styles of tai chi, Tai Chi for Diabetes (TCD) is easy to learn, effective, and safe. The program includes warm-up and cool-down exercises, the teaching method, basic knowledge about diabetes, and how to teach this program safely. Qualified participants who complete the course may be accredited by the Tai Chi for Health Institute to teach this exercise program.

About the Creator of Tai Chi for Diabetes

Dr Paul Lam is an Australian family physician and tai chi expert, and a world leader in the field of tai chi for health. He is a well-recognised teacher, and the author of several books on tai chi and health, including Living Well with Diabetes by Dr Paul Lam and Pat Phillips, and best-selling instructional tai chi DVDs. Preparation

Required preparatory work includes learning the forms through the Tai Chi for Diabetes online lessons or DVD and reading the Teaching Tai Chi Effectively book. Depending on the workshop, these materials are either included in the workshop fee or offered at a 20% discount. Board Certification

Following successful completion of this course you will be required to register to become a Tai Chi for Health Institute Board-certified instructor before teaching the program, if you are not already a member. One two-year membership fee of AUD 99 covers Board Certification for all your Tai Chi for Health qualifications, and you will then be listed with your certifications on the TCHI website. Details

Tai Chi for Diabetes is one in a series of Tai Chi for Health Programs designed by Dr Paul Lam in conjunction with other Tai Chi and Medical Experts.

This form is a combination of Sun and Yang styles of Tai Chi and the movements progress to graduated levels of physical exertion. The program is designed to help improve diabetes. Exercise is well established as being paramount in empowering ones own health and well-being. Tai Chi for Diabetes is a most suitable exercise form. It can also enhance appropriate acupuncture meridians to improve diabetes control. It can be modified and is suitable for almost anyone to improve overall health. 

People interested in doing this workshop can either apply to certify as an instructor of the course to safely and effectively teach other people or to attend to enhance their own practice of tai chi. If you are currently certified in TCD you can attend for a practice session (contact Anastasia to discuss, details below). Eligibility to apply to certify to be an instuctor of the course:
