"Tai Chi and Breathing: Beyond the Basics"

Monthly Tai Chi for Health Forum - Time Zone 2

OCTOBER 2026

Breathing runs through every Tai Chi for Health program, from the warm-up onwards. It comes up in every discussion of tai chi principles, yet we have never had a Forum focused specifically on breathing until now.

Breathing is vital, it is life. It is also the most accessible doorway into internal energy. Most of us breathe without noticing, roughly twenty thousand times a day. That is part of what makes the breath such a useful place to begin. It runs on its own, but it is also a body function you can direct.

The Forum will look at how the pattern of breathing changes what happens in the body, contrasting the short, high breathing that comes with pain or tension against the slow abdominal breathing at the centre of Dan Tian work.

Breathing in tai chi follows a pattern of gathering on the inhale and delivering on the exhale. We will look at how that works in movements you already know, such as Open and Close Hands, Waving Hands Like Clouds, Brush Knee and Push, and Repulse Monkey.

The main purpose of the Tai Chi for Health Forum is to connect with everyone and to share knowledge and friendship. Each month there will be a theme topic, addressed by Dr Lam and invited expert/s. There will be time for questions and comments sent prior, time permitting. You will also have an opportunity to enjoy meeting other participants from all over the world. It is a great way to learn and share as a member of the global tai chi community. Connecting with other tai chi enthusiasts is so helpful! Afterwards, a link to the recording will be sent to all registered participants.

Registration in advance is required. Please email your questions or topics of interest at least two days in advance to service@drlamtaichiworkshops.com. Please put “Forum” in the subject line.

Be sure to register every month!
