Bio

Fifteen years experience in the External (Hard) Martial Arts gave me a solid foundation for the wonderful Internal (Soft) Martial Art of Tai Chi.

My Tai Chi journey began with a Yang 108 Classical Form class taught in the traditional way; several years attending this class gave me an appreciation for the Classical Form as well as traditional teaching methods. Then I went to a TCHI TCA class, and ever since I find I can’t get enough Tai Chi, so I regularly attend Tai Chi & Qigong classes, workshops, & webinars to expand my knowledge & enhance my skills.

My favorite styles are Sun & Yang; my favorite sets are TCA, Sun 73, Yang 24, Yang 32 Sword, the Combined 42 Forms, & Flowing Waters Tai Chi Cane Form. I also greatly enjoy Health Qigong, especially Five Element Qigong & Wu Ji Qigong.

In 2020 I was honored by being selected to became a Senior Trainer (ST). ST’s are trained & authorized by the TCHI to conduct regional instructor practice sessions, and to assist Master Trainers in all matters relating to the TCHI program.

My background enriches my Tai Chi. As a cadet at West Point, I competed on the West Point Karate Team. As an Army Officer I coached the West Point Karate Team, and instructed a Youth Activities Karate program for children ages 7-18.

Grand Master Duk Sung Son, 9th Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, taught me & promoted me to Black Belt. After I coached a World Tae Kwon Do Junior Champion, Grand Master Duk Sung Son authorized me to promote in his name. I also earned a Black Belt in Goju Ryu Karate, and owned & operated a karate studio.

My hard Martial Arts experience enables me to readily understand & appreciate the martial basis & derivation of Tai Chi movements; I enjoy sharing my understanding & appreciation with others, thereby enhancing our view as we climb the Tai Chi Mountain together - a fulfilling journey that improves our health & promotes a better quality of life.

In 2023 I was honored to be elected to the United States Tai Chi Community (USTCC) Board of Directors. USTCC.ORG Is a professional organization that supports teachers & participants who practice Tai Chi for health improvement.
