Information

Details

Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention is based on the Sun style of Tai Chi and is easy to learn, effective and safe. Regular practice improves flexibility, muscle strength, and balance. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have recommended it as an effective fall prevention and arthritis management activity.

The Tai Chi for Arthritis programme was designed by Dr Paul Lam in conjunction with a team of medical specialists and Tai Chi experts. Scientific studies have proven its effectiveness in aiding pain relief, improving quality of life, enhancing balance, and preventing falls.

This one-day intensive in-person workshop is the second part of your training. The first part is a self-paced learning package, SIPP—see Preparation below.

Reasons to participate in the Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention training in-person workshop:

  • Complete your training on how to teach this programme safely and effectively.
  • Gain knowledge of what Tai Chi is and how it helps people with Arthritis.
  • Be able to perform the Tai Chi for Arthritis set.

Who is eligible to attend this training? Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Exercise Physiologists, Certified Allied Health Assistants, Lifestyle Co-ordinators, Diversional Therapists, Health Practitioners, Nurses, Tai Chi Instructors and advanced Tai Chi students, who have completed the online Self-paced Instructor Preparation Package (SIPP).

Your trainers: Rosalie is a Physiotherapist and Petra is a Registered Nurse. Both are interested in healthy ageing and falls prevention. As Master Trainers with the Tai Chi for Health Institute, they are passionate about sharing the benefits of the Tai Chi for Health programmes within their communities and enabling others to become qualified instructors.

Preparation: The self-paced instructor preparation package (SIPP) must be completed prior to attending the workshop and is available from Rosalie once you are registered and payment has been received.
Each participant needs to be familiar with the movements in the Tai Chi for Arthritis programme, (included in the learning package, DVDs available for $35.95, also as online lessons), Tai Chi for Arthritis handbook ($12.95) and the textbook "Teaching Tai Chi Effectively" by Dr Paul Lam ($21.95 or as an e-book from Amazon $9.99) before coming to the Stage 2 workshop. These items are available directly from Tai Chi Productions in Sydney, Ph: 02 9533 6511, or visit www.taichiproductions.com

Board Certification: After successfully completing SIPP and the workshop, you will be required to register to become a Tai Chi for Health Institute Board-certified Instructor before teaching the programme. The annual fee is $40 (Standard Membership) or $70 (Premier Membership) and covers Board Certification for all your Tai Chi for Health qualifications. You will then be listed on the TCHI website.
