Tai Chi for Osteoporosis

Tai Chi for Osteoporosis (TCO) was specially designed by Dr Paul Lam in conjunction with his tai chi associates and a team of medical experts. It helps to improve balance and prevent the risk of falls. The program will also improve posture, muscle strength, relaxation, fitness, and health. Based on Sun and Yang styles of tai chi, Tai Chi for Osteoporosis is easy to learn, effective, and safe. It includes some gentle weight-bearing movements that are beneficial for bone strength.  It also incorporates breathing exercises and stepping in four directions. Qualified participants who successfully complete the course may be accredited by the Tai Chi for Health Institute to teach this program.

Dr Paul Lam is an Australian family physician and tai chi expert, and a world leader in the field of tai chi for health. He is a well-recognized teacher, and the author of several books on tai chi and best-selling instructional tai chi DVDs. On successful completion of this one-day intensive workshop, you will be provided with the necessary skills and knowledge to conduct safe and effective modified tai chi for osteoporosis classes. Tai Chi for Osteoporosis is a program specially designed by Dr. Paul Lam in conjunction with a team of medical specialists and tai chi experts. Based on the Sun and Yang style, Tai Chi for Osteo is easy to learn, effective and safe. It is designed to improve balance. The program aims to improve health and wellness.

At the conclusion of the workshop

  • Learn how to teach this program safely and effectively
  • Gain knowledge of what is Tai Chi and how it helps people with osteoporosis
  • Be able to perform the Tai Chi for Osteoporosis set

Suitable participants include: Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Exercise Physiologists, Tai Chi teachers and advanced students, Nurses, Health professionals (eg doctors), Accredited Exercise Instructors, Certified Allied Health Assistants. 

Your trainer

Rani Hughes is an occupational therapist and Master Trainer in various Tai Chi for Health programs. Rani enjoys teaching and has trained hundreds of Tai Chi for Health instructors. She has taught tai chi for over twenty years to a diverse range of people, including people with arthritis, diabetes and people experiencing mental illness. She has taught tai chi across Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Sri Lanka and India. 

Preparation

This one-day intensive in-person workshop is the second part of your training, with the first part being a Self-paced Instructor Preparation Package (SIPP).

Self-paced Instructor Preparation Package (SIPP) needs to be completed prior to attending the Zoom workshop and is available from Rani once you are registered and payment is received. Each participant needs to be familiar with the movements in the Tai Chi for Osteoporosis programme (included in the learning package) and the textbook "Teaching Tai Chi Effectively" by Dr Paul Lam ($21.95 or as an e-book from Amazon, $9.99) before coming to the Stage 2 workshop. Board Certification: Following successful completion of SIPP and the workshop, you will be required to register to become a Tai Chi for Health Institute Board-certified instructor before teaching the programme. The annual fee is $40 (Standard Membership) and $70 (Premier Membership) and covers Board Certification for all your Tai Chi for Health qualifications.  You will then be listed on the TCHI website. 

Cost

$440 for certification in Tai Chi for Osteoporosis program. This fee includes the cost of SIPP (Self-Paced Instructor Preparation Package) 

$150 to attend as a student at this one-day tai chi workshop to deepen your own tai chi practice  (Not to be certified or updated to teach)  

$220 to update your Tai Chi for Osteoporisis program

$55 for additional Tai Chi for Health updates
