Tai Chi for Life is an innovative and easy to learn program incorporating dancing and fun, designed for beginners and seniors to improve balance and strength. Tai Chi for Life incorporates Dr Lam’s forty years' experience in tai chi, medicine and positive psychology into an easy and fun program that almost anyone can learn.

Anyone is welcome to attend, but in order to be eligible to be certified as an instructor you must already hold a valid TCHI Instructor Certificate and be Board Certified, plus have a current CPR certificate.
About the creator of this program - Dr Paul Lam
Dr Paul Lam, a retired family physician in Sydney, Australia, is a world leader in the field of tai chi for health improvement. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC.gov) recommends his Tai Chi for Arthritis Program.
Dr Lam has been studying tai chi for over forty years. He is proficient in different styles and has created several Tai Chi for Health programs that have improved the health of millions of people worldwide.
He is one of the most sought after tai chi teachers having trained thousands of instructors. Dr Lam has written several tai chi books including Teaching Tai Chi Effectively and Tai Chi for Beginners and the 24 Forms. His instructional DVDs and online lessons are best sellers around the world.

At this workshop qualified instructors will have an opportunity to update their existing qualifications. There is an administration fee and you will need to complete a written assignment and submit it two weeks before the workshop, plus meet the requirements.
NB: Assignments submitted late incur an admin fee.
Wear loose comfortable clothes and flat shoes suitable for exercise.
Details
This training includes TWO steps.
Step 1: SIPP - Fundamentals of Tai Chi for Life Instructor Training is a self-paced, virtual program that contains essential material to train effective and safe instructors. All you have to do is follow the sequence with Dr Lam’s video guides for every step.
After completion of SIPP (knowledge-based program and online lessons), you will be ready for STEP 2 (practical session) - a 1-day instructor training workshop to be eligible to become a Tai Chi for Health Institute (TCHI) Board Certified instructor. Becky Rahe
Suitable participants include health and fitness professionals or those with other similar qualifications, and experienced tai chi students.
* 12 months of online access is included in SIPP. This will be sent once registration is complete.

Preparation for Instructor Qualification Training

Participants are required to have a copy of the Teaching Tai Chi Effectively book

Review the text, especially the chapters on safety, teaching effectively, the Stepwise Progressive Teaching Method and Working with Chronic Conditions, is part of your preparation.

7 Hours of Training

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and shoes that fit well. Bring a light snack and a water bottle.

Post Instructor Qualification Training

Post-Zoom session(s) may be necessary if the requirements are not met in the criteria.

Certifications will be awarded once all training requirements and Zoom sessions have been completed.

Upon teaching, make sure to have CPR/First Aid training
Once you are registered, Becky or Adriene will send a link for SIPP and an invitation to attend Becky's weekly ongoing Tai Chi Zoom Session. These optional sessions will help you prepare for the training as well as give you the opportunity to meet and network with other TCHI instructors.
Step 2: The Practical Training is an IN-PERSON workshop with Master Trainer Becky Rahe on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 9 a.m. USA EDT Check-in. You must complete the Self-Paced Instructor Preparation Package (SIPP) beforehand. SIPP is a self-paced learning program via online lessons. As soon as you register, access to SIPP will be emailed to you. Please see below for more details.

Tai chi has been proven to improve immunity by approximately 50%. It also relieves stress and improves almost all aspects of health. It can help overcome the challenges posed by the pandemic. Teaching it will help to bring tai chi to more people, and at the same time, improve your own health. That is why Dr Lam created this two-step package.
If this is your first time becoming a Tai Chi for Health Instructor, you will need to purchase the Teaching Tai Chi Effectively Book. Adriene will send you information on how to purchase this book once you are registered.
Once you have been qualified you will be sent a link to pay the annual TCHi fee of $40

We encourage you to be familiar with the sequence using DVD, Online Lessons, Zoom, or in person classes? Adriene will send a welcome email with information on how to get these resources and with ZOOM and in person sessions.
