Details

Tai Chi for Diabetes is based on the Sun and Yang styles of Tai Chi and is easy to learn, effective and safe. It will improve health and wellness and is designed to prevent and improve diabetes control. Tai Chi for Diabetes is a program designed by Dr Paul Lam in conjunction with a team of Medical Specialists and Tai Chi experts and is supported by Diabetes Australia. 

Reasons to come to the workshop:

  • Assist your community by completing your training on how to teach this programme safely and effectively.
  • Gain knowledge of what Tai Chi is and how it helps people with diabetes.
  • Be able to perform the Tai Chi for Diabetes set and benefit from this programme yourself. 

This one-day intensive workshop is the second section of your training. The first section includes required reading and a Self-paced Instructor Preparation Package (SIPP)—see details below.

Who is eligible to attend this training? Diabetes Educators, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Exercise Physiologists, Certified Allied Health Assistants, Diversional Therapists, Lifestyle Coordinators, Health Practitioners, Nurses, Tai Chi Instructors and advanced Tai Chi students. 

Your trainer: Rosalie Rudduck is a physiotherapist and Master Trainer in Tai Chi for Diabetes, Tai Chi for Arthritis, and Falls Prevention, as well as other Tai Chi for Health programmes with the Tai Chi for Health Institute. She has a Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training. Rosalie has worked extensively with people of all ages and has special interests in fall prevention and healthy ageing. 

The Self-paced Instructor Preparation Package (SIPP) needs to be completed prior to attending the workshop and is available from Rosalie once you are registered and payment is received. 
Each participant needs to be familiar with the movements in the 2019 Tai Chi for Diabetes programme (included in the SIPP, DVD available for $29.95), Tai Chi for Diabetes handbook ($12.95) and the textbook "Teaching Tai Chi Effectively" by Dr Paul Lam ($21.95 or e-book from Amazon $9.99) before the workshop. Tai Chi for Health Institute (TCHI) membership: Following successfully completion of SIPP and the workshop, you will be required to register to become a certified Instructor with the Tai Chi for Health Institute before teaching the programme. A fee of $99 will cover the two years till your update is due and covers Board certification for all of your Tai Chi for Health qualifications. You will then be listed on the TCHI website and be able to have your class locations listed on the website under "Classes near me". 

Cost

Tai Chi for Diabetes initial Instructor training includes SIPP and an in-person workshop. $440 (early bird $420, paid by 7th February 2026).

Updates: Tai Chi for Diabetes $230.

Extra updates: Tai Chi for Arthritis 1 & 2, Falls Prevention, Seated TCA, Energy 1, Energy 2, Osteoporosis, Rehabilitation, Memory, Heart Conditions $50 each, maximum $100.

Attendance without Instructor qualification: $100.

Cancellations made before 14th March 2026 are subject to a $140 administration fee. Refunds are not available after 14th March 2026.

Location

Toowoomba is a beautiful inland city, population approx 120,000. Just 125 kms west of Brisbane and is the gateway to southern and western Queensland and to inland New South Wales. Plenty of accommodation and activities to enjoy.
