Tai Chi for Diabetes

Tai Chi for Diabetes is a tai chi form, specially designed by Dr Paul Lam in conjunction with his team of medical specialists and tai chi experts to improve the management of diabetes. The program will help to increase flexibility and muscle strength, increase heart/lung activity, align posture, improve balance, and integrate the mind and body. This safe effective program is supported by Diabetes Australia.

Based on the Sun and Yang styles of tai chi, Tai Chi for Diabetes (TCD) is easy to learn, effective, and safe. The program includes warm-up and cool-down exercises, the teaching method, basic knowledge about diabetes, and how to teach this program safely. Qualified participants who complete the course may be accredited by the Tai Chi for Health Institute to teach this exercise program.

Board Certification

Following successful completion of this course you will be required to register to become a Tai Chi for Health Institute Board-certified instructor before teaching the program (if not already a member). One annual fee covers Board Certification for all your Tai Chi for Health qualifications. You will then be listed with your certifications on the TCHI website.

Clothing

Wear loose comfortable clothes and flat shoes suitable for exercise.

Tai Chi for Diabetes is based on the Sun and Yang styles of tai chi and is easy to learn, effective and safe.  It will improve health and wellness and is designed to prevent and improve the control of diabetes.  Tai Chi for Diabetes is a programme specially designied by Dr Paul Lam in conjunction with a team of medical specialists and tai chi experts and is supported by Diabetes Australia.

These two half day Zoom workshops form the second stage of your training, with the first stage being a self paced learning package - see Preparation below.

Your trainer:

Rosalie Rudduck is a Physiotherapist and Master Trainer in the Tai Chi for Diabetes, Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention and other Tai Chi for Health programmes with the Tai Chi for Health Institute. She has Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training.  Rosalie has worked extensively with people of all ages and has special interests in fall prevention and healthy ageing.  

Preparation:

Stage 1, pre-requisite:  self paced learning package needs to be completed prior to 27th February 2022 and is available from Rosalie once you are registered and payment is received. 

Each participant needs to be familiar with the movements in the Tai Chi for Diabetes programme (included in the learning package, 2019 DVD available for $29.95), Tai Chi for Diabetes handbook ($12.95) and textbook "Teaching Tai Chi Effectively" by Dr Paul Lam (available in hard copy $21.95 or e-book $9.95) before coming to the Stage 2 workshop.  These products are available from Tai Chi Productions in Sydney Ph: 02 9533 6511 or www.taichiproductions.com

Board Certification:

Following successful completion of Stages 1 and 2 of this course, you will be required to register to become a Tai Chi for Health Institute Board certified instructor before teaching the programme (if not already a member). Annual fee $26 (Standard Membership) or $46 (Premier Membership) and covers Board Certification for all your Tai Chi for Health qualifications.  You will then be listed on the TCHI website.

Cost

Instructor Certificate $420, early bird $400 paid in full by 31st January 2022.

Tai Chi for Diabetes Update Certificate $220, early bird $200 paid in full by 31st January 2022.  Additional updates $45 each, maximum $90.

Attendance Certificate $150, early bird $140 paid in full by 31st January 2022.

Cancellation is subject to a $130 administration fee.
