Details

Tai Chi for Diabetes is based on the Sun and Yang styles of Tai Chi and is easy to learn, effective and safe. It will improve health and wellness and is designed to prevent and improve diabetes control. Tai Chi for Diabetes is a program designed by Dr Paul Lam in conjunction with a team of Medical Specialists and Tai Chi experts and is supported by Diabetes Australia. 

Reasons to come to the workshop:

  • Learn how to teach this programme safely and effectively.
  • Gain knowledge of what Tai Chi is and how it helps people with diabetes.
  • Be able to perform the Tai Chi for Diabetes set. 

This one-day intensive workshop is the second section of your training. The first section includes required reading and a Self-paced Instructor Preparation Package (SIPP)—see details below.

Who is eligible to attend this training? Diabetes Educators, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Exercise Physiologists, Certified Allied Health Assistants, Diversional Therapists, Lifestyle Coordinators, Health Practicioners, Nurses, Tai Chi Instructors and advanced Tai Chi students. 

Your trainer: Rosalie Rudduck is a physiotherapist and Master Trainer in Tai Chi for Diabetes, Tai Chi for Arthritis, and Falls Prevention, as well as other Tai Chi for Health programmes with the Tai Chi for Health Institute. She has Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training. Rosalie has worked extensively with people of all ages and has special interests in fall prevention and healthy ageing. 

The Self-paced Instructor Preparation Package (SIPP) needs to be completed prior to attending the workshop and is available from Rosalie once you are registered and payment is received. 
Each participant needs to be familiar with the movements in the 2019 Tai Chi for Diabetes programme (included in the SIPP, DVD available for $29.95), Tai Chi for Diabetes handbook ($12.95) and the textbook "Teaching Tai Chi Effectively" by Dr Paul Lam ($21.95 or e-book from Amazon $9.99) before the workshop. Board Certification: Following successful completion of SIPP and the in-person workshop, you will be required to register to become a Tai Chi for Health Institute Board-Certified instructor in Tai Chi for Diabetes before teaching the programme (if not already a member). The annual fee is $40 (Standard Membership) or $70 (Premium Membership) and covers Board Certification for all your Tai Chi for Health qualifications. You will then be listed on the Tai Chi for Health Institute website.

Cost

Initial instructor training is $440 (includes SIPP pre-requisite), and early bird is $420 if paid in full by 12th July 2025.

Tai Chi for Diabetes Update $220.

Extra Updates: (with assignment) Tai Chi for Arthritis and Falls Prevention 1 & 2, Seated TCA, Energy 1 & 2, Osteoporosis, Rehabilitation, Memory, Heart Conditions, $50 each, $100 maximum.

Cancellation: is subject to a $140 administration fee. No refunds after 16th August 2025.

Morning and afternoon tea will be supplied.

Attendance without instructor qualification: $100.   

A tax invoice with payment details will be prepared once registered, or you can contact Rosalie to discuss it.

Location

Strathpine is located in the Moreton Bay Region just north of Brisbane. Calala Hall is a lovely little hall with a sprung wooden floor, nestled against the Four Mile Creek Peter Campbell Reserve in a quiet suburban area.
