Tai Chi for Rehabilitation combines the calming Qigong of Sun, the flow of Yang and the energy of Chen styles of Tai Chi in a short sequence designed by Dr Paul Lam and colleagues. It can be done while lying, sitting or standing and is suitable for people recovering from illness, injury or inactivity. Being a very calming form, it is also helpful in settling everyone in a class following warm-ups. On successful completion of this workshop, you will have the necessary skills and knowledge to conduct safe and effective Tai Chi for Rehabilitation classes in hospital rehabilitation and community settings.

This one-day intensive in-person workshop is the second section of your training. The first section includes required reading and a Self-paced Instructor Preparation Package (SIPP).
Your trainer: Rosalie Rudduck is a physiotherapist and Master Trainer in the Tai Chi for Energy 1 & 2, Tai Chi for Arthritis and Falls Prevention, Diabetes, as well as other Tai Chi for Health programmes with the Tai Chi for Health Institute. She has a Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training. Rosalie has worked extensively with people of all ages and has special interests in fall prevention and healthy ageing.
Who is eligible to attend this training? Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Exercise Physiologists, Certified Allied Health Assistants, Lifestyle Co-ordinators, Diversional Therapists, Health Practitioners, Nurses, Tai Chi Instructors and advanced Tai Chi students who have completed the online Self-paced Instructor Preparation Package (SIPP).
Preparation: The self-paced instructor preparation package (SIPP) needs to be completed prior to attending the workshop and is available from Rosalie once you are registered and payment is received.
Each participant needs to be familiar with the movements in the Tai Chi for Rehabilitation programme (included in the learning package, DVDs available for $35.95) and the textbook "Teaching Tai Chi Effectively" by Dr Paul Lam ($21.95, before coming to the in-person Stage 2 workshop. Tai Chi for Health Institute (TCHI) membership: Following successfully completion of SIPP and the workshop, you will be required to register to become a certified Instructor with the Tai Chi for Health Institute before teaching the programme (if not already a member). A fee of $99 will cover the two years till your update is due and covers Board certification for all of your Tai Chi for Health qualifications. You will then be listed on the TCHI website and be able to have your class locations listed on the website under "Classes near me".
For AUSactive CPD points, completion of a workbook (100 hours, which includes your preparation) and TCHI membership is required. Add $60 to cover administration costs.
Cost
Tai Chi for Rehabilitation Initial Instructor training includes SIPP and an in-person workshop. $440 (early bird $420, paid by 26th June 2026).
Updates: Tai Chi for Rehabilitation $230.
Extra updates with assignment: Tai Chi for Arthritis & Falls Prevention, TCA2, Seated TCA, Diabetes, Energy 1 & 2, Heart Conditions, Osteoporosis, Rehabilitation, Memory, $50 each, maximum $100.
Attendance without Instructor qualification: $100.
Cancellations made before 25th July 2026 are subject to a $140 administration fee. Refunds are not available after 25th July 2026.
